Frequency Coordination
Frequency coordination prevents and mitigates radio-frequency interference between different radio systems that use the same operational frequency in a common geographical area. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation provides frequency coordination for Wisconsin public safety agencies, ensuring reliable, non-interfering radio telecommunications within the state and in collaboration with neighboring states.
The State Frequency Coordinator, Carl Guse, maintains an updated FCC radio frequency spectrum database, plans for the best utilization of radio channels and reviews all applications for public safety licensing from Wisconsin agencies. The State Coordinator works with the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) to assist agencies in obtaining FCC licensing.
Contact Carl by email or by phone at 608-266-2497.
